🌀SLHBA Hurricane Preparedness Series – Week 7
Build Your Hurricane Supply Kit Before You Need It
Build Your Hurricane Supply Kit Before You Need It
When a hurricane is approaching, store shelves empty quickly. The best time to prepare is before a storm is in the forecast.
This week, take a few minutes to check your emergency supplies.
Your hurricane kit should include:
• Drinking water (at least one gallon per person, per day for three days)
• Non-perishable food and a manual can opener
• Flashlights and extra batteries
• A battery-powered or hand-crank weather radio
• Prescription medications and a basic first aid kit
• Cell phone chargers and portable power banks
• Important documents stored in a waterproof container
• Pet food and supplies, if needed
• Cash in small bills, since ATMs and card readers may not be available after a storm
Don't forget to review your family's evacuation plan and make sure everyone knows where to go if an evacuation is ordered.
A little preparation today can provide peace of mind tomorrow.
Build Local. Build Better.
